'wim' {of the week 3}

Thursday, May 26, 2011

for those of you who may not know, each week i showcase something i made! it can be anything from desserts, meals, crafts etc! i have named it 'wim' of the week. ('wim'= What I Made) most of what i create stems from something i saw either on another blog or while ryan and i are out and about. i frequently get inspired and think to myself  "hey! i can make that!"  i love creating things for my family and friends and i love sharing it on my blog. i hope every 'wim' of the week inspires you to make something special for your family and friends, as well as help you explore your creative side! enjoy!

this week's 'wim' has nothing to do with dessert, but can be that perfect final touch on a dessert display! i am talking about my fabulous fabric bows! last christmas my son ryan received a gift with a fabric bow on top of it and i thought it was the cutest thing! {thank you auntie sarah} i held onto it and recently dug it out to see how it was made and if i could re-create it. turns out they are the easiest thing and can be made with any fabric!
here is what you need; fabric, ribbon & scissors/circle die-cutter....and a lot of patience while cutting the fabric circles! you just cut a bunch of circles from the fabric, cut holes in the center and thread them through the ribbon.

{here are the fabric circles threaded through the ribbon}
 to make a good size bow you'll need about ten+ circles. as i said before you can use whatever fabric you have. i had solid colors so i used my favorite color combination right now...mustard yellow & blue to make my bows. also, you can cut the circles in any size, the larger the circle the larger the bow! {i can see a ton of fabric bows under our tree this year at christmas!!!}
here are the ones i made this week!

{i love the style it gives to a give or display}
you can make the bows look different by twisting them, scrunching them close together or fanning them out.

i am really excited about these bows! i will use them for my dessert displays and they can be coordinated to match any events color scheme. i hope you enjoyed this week's 'wim'! tell me what you guys made this week! i would love to hear!

'wim' {of the week 2}

Friday, May 20, 2011

this week i am sharing with you a yummy late night snack i make almost weekly for dan and myself! bunuelos! {known as boonies! in our house} bunuelos are fried tortillas dipped in cinnamon and sugar. simple as that.
they are our favorite treat and super easy to make. all you need are; veggie oil, flour tortillas, cinnamon and sugar. you can cut the tortillas into any shape you desire, then fry them to a golden crispy brown and dunk them into a yummy pit of cinnamon and sugar. pure heaven!

{boonies, sittin' pretty}
this week has been super busy and didn't start off at its best. therefore the 'wim' of the week is quite simple, yet a special one. dan and i love our boonies and relaxing on the couch with our favorite t.v. shows! i look forward to making them for ryan when he is older :o)
i hope you try these out with your very own sweetheart soon!

whippy cake {testimonial}

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

whippy cake (for those of you who have been living under a rock) are sweet, sassy and sexy appliques designed by becki. i stumbled across 'wc' while blog surfing and instantly fell in love! i quickly ordered some of my own 'wc' asap and can't wait to purchase more! (waiting for the 4th of july newbies) i feel like the single bummer of having a baby boy is that sadly his father would die if i stuck an applique on his beautiful red hair! ha!
i wanted to write this love message in hopes of brightening becki's day, to hopefully be featured on her testimonial page and to let her know that she has some amazing 'wc' fans who appreciate what she makes! seriously sometimes i don't brush my hair and throw on a 'wc' and look fab! becki you are an inspiration and i heart you and your creative works of glam!

love 2 your momma

-better late than never-

we celebrated my 1st momma's day perfectly! my boys and i started the day with donuts and coffee which could not have been more perfect. then we were off to share the celebration with family.
the previous week was extremely busy, though i still found time to bake some yummy treats for our momma's day gathering. i decided to make cake pops in one of our favorite flavors...cookies and milk! (aka cookies-n-cream) i used our milk chocolate cake flavor, white chocolate and crushed chocolate cream sandwich cookies (yes cookies are organic!). making cake pops are really fun and i personally love the wow factor it has on my family and friends. everyone loved these and so far, are a 'bbb' favorite! i am excited to make these in various flavors for you all!

{pops ready to be dunked into white chocolate. i heart my giraffe mug.}
the cake pops were amazing! as for the display not so much! i ran out of time and didn't want to make myself crazy on my 1st momma's day. so i threw together something fast. however i don't think anyone seemed to mind as the cake pops disappeared FAST. :)

{i left a little cake showing at the bottom. i like the black and white effect}

{i added flower decal and ribbon to jazz it up. but it is def. not 'bbb' quality}
i apologized for the short post, we have been with out our computers for the last 2 weeks and i wanted to share the momma's day cake pops asap. if you want to try them...email me ;)

'wim' {of the week 1}

Thursday, May 5, 2011

today i would like to share you with you all the frames i made this week! they are really simple and took no more than an hour (mod podge dries fast!) i bought a set of three wooden frames for 2$ at one of my favorite stores...ikea! i then cut out cute flowers from a designed card stock and arranged them on to the frames. after putting the flowers on in the order i liked i mod podged them onto the frame. the mod podge dries and makes the card stock hard so your design stays put and looks nice! to add another touch i glued silk satin ribbon to the back to hang the frames with. i made three and the set is decorating my dining room. super cute!

{i found this card stock in the 1$ section at target}

i have made a lot of frames this way! when my son ryan was born i made a bunch of frames for my family and put ryan's picture in them! there are many decorating our house. i love that you can personalize the frames to fit your style and make each frame special for every photo! here i would like to share with you some of my favorites :)
{i used the same card stock and painted the wood to match our room. i am 6 mo. pregnant is this picture}
{i used polka dot card stock and painted wooden letters. here is our 6 1/2 mo ultra sound}
so, there they are my homemade frames! i hope you all enjoy the 'wim' of the week and make some for yourself!

bbb's new idea

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

after reading countless blogs i have come to the realization that most of them have a weekly update/ritual post aside from their other  blog related posts. for example, some have 'what i wear' and others have 'tutorials' on things they craft. i enjoy reading them so much and have come to look forward to their creative ideas and looks. also, it awoke an idea for myself and 'bbb' blog.
aside from baking and building beautiful designer dessert displays, i like to think of myself as crafty. i love DIY and since moving into our new home i have found myself crafting up things to decorate our humble abode. dan seems to enjoy my creations (at least i hope so) i know he thinks i am crazy at times! :) however, i do make things regularly and dan is always surprised to come home to something new! which is why i have decided to start a 'what i made' of the week! aka 'wim' of the week! it will be an awesome way to showcase things i craft for our family and friends. i also hope to inspire my blog readers and if you all seem to like some of the things i make i could start giving it away! yay!
'wim' of the week will be every thurs and will start TOMORROW! with every week i will be getting better at taking pictures of the process and final product. the first 'wim' will be just of the final product, since i have finished making the item and it is already displayed in our dining room!
i am super excited to share my ideas! and i thank the blogs i frequently read for their inspiring posts!
**ps: click on the links above to see the blogs that gave me this idea! caution...you might become obsessed!**
below is a teaser of what is to come...hope you enjoy!

thank you easter bunny

Sunday, May 1, 2011

easter 2011 was our first as a little family of three and it could not have been a better day! it was filled with tons of family, food, colored eggs and sweet treats made by 'bbb'!
'bbb' was asked to create a fun spring dessert display for our easter celebration and i knew at once what i wanted to do! i had recently seen a cute sugar cookie pop idea on the tomkat studio blog and couldn't wait to re-create it as my own! i used a  family sugar cookie recipe that i have changed up using organic sugar, butter and vanilla flavoring to make it 'bbb' quality. they turned out not to sweet and super moist! yum! i baked the cookies on sticks turning them into cookie pops! i then made royal icing from scratch which was a pain, but worth it and detailed each cookie to look like daises. the outcome was very cute! i thank the tomkat studio and sweetopia for the huge inspiration!
of course being flowers i needed to plant them in a pot and that is just what i did! with a little foam inside a flower pot i was able to stick the pops upright to look like they were growing. i added detail with ribbon, grass and some bunny clips.
since creating this sugar cookie pop display i have become completely inspired to make other dessert pop displays and i can't wait to show you what i come up with!
enjoy!

{baby boy enjoying a cookie pop! he only had it for a second then i took it away from him. he is teething so everything goes straight to the mouth! no cookies for baby boy yet!!}
