72 cupcakes = piece of cake

Sunday, July 31, 2011

this past thursday i delivered 6 dozen cupcakes for a birthday party to be held out in Las Vegas! *gasp* this order was loaded with 'first times' for myself and 'baby boy bakery'. it was our biggest order yet, plus we had to package them to be transported out of state and still look and taste delish. the order was for 3 dozen of our 'redhead' (red velvet) and 3 dozen custom cheesecake cupcakes! it was a tall order as those are two flavors that take a little more time and prep than others. from the start i was excited and i pulled it off with no problem (which hasn't been the case for other orders) haha! it is a challenge running a teeny baking biz with a 10 month old under foot! :)
the packaging we used for this order are boxes from our local bakery supply store. soon we will have our own boxes with our logo on them! i look forward to sharing our new packaging with you all! yay!
have a great sunday!

'wim' {of the week 8}

this weeks 'wim' stems from an obsession i have with chai tea latte dates. chai tea latte dates are something my momma and i do when we spend time together. we both love going to her local coffee shop in walnut creek, ordering extra hot chai tea lattes and chat about everything. since moving to southern california those dates are far and few between. i often grab a chai tea latte solo or with my son and call my momma on the phone which is the next best thing. this week i wanted to try and make a cake that would remind me of sitting comfy in a cafe' with my momma while sipping our favorite latte.
 i decided to do try and create a chai flavored cake. i got a little creative with the recipe and steeped organic chai tea in milk rather than water and then made a basic vanilla cake recipe (i love vanilla & chai together). i just added the chai infused milk instead of regular milk into the batter. i also added a little spice to the cake, but i'll keep that a secret. the outcome was a super moist 'chai-tastic' cake! with every bite you got a subtle chai tea flavor, which was nice because it wasn't over powering. to top the cake i did a glaze using the left over chai tea with milk (used in the cake) whisked with some powdered sugar. it was a nice change from frosting and it made the cakes more moist and sweet. i enjoyed them! though, the recipe needs more testing to become perfect!
have you ever created a recipe that takes you back to a good memory? i would love to hear about it!
{i loved the glaze instead of frosting!}

-this weeks inspiration topic- 'the beach'

 the topic this week is the beach! and i love the beach especially with my FAMILY! and what better a place to be inspired than the beach surrounded by the people you love?
the beach is a special place that i enjoy often through out the year and it just so happens to be the place where our family gets together and has the best of times! we are lucky enough to say our family has a beach house in the heart of laguna, california. this tiny peace of heaven belongs to dan's 98 year old grandma bam. the whole family has been coming to stay for weeks at a time during the summer for many years.
dan's grandparents have the last name 'ryan' (our son is named after them) and the beach house has a sign out front reading 'ryan's roost'. i think the fact that this house has so much family history within its walls is inspiring! plus, it is so much fun to visit. we spend lazy days at the beach and lazy nights laughing, eating and enjoying each other on the patio. it is a beautiful sight.
'the beach house' as i like to call it or 'ryan's roost' as it sometimes is referred to has been the venue for many important events such as birthdays, parties, parties, parties and more parties. it is so inspiring to see the family come together and celebrate each other. the happiness i feel makes me think of endless creative possibilities, plus, with all the parties going on there needs to be dessert! (made by yours truly!)
also! we are planning our son's 1st birthday party to be held at the beach house, which will be very sweet for me because my family and dan's family will be together celebrating! perfection!
here are some photos taken at the inspiring beach house!

i look forward to seeing how the beach inspires you all! does your family have a special spot? i would love to hear about it!

{baby boy} food- tropical yogurt parfait

Monday, July 25, 2011

i am super excited about the sweet comments and positive thoughts about my new {baby boy} food page on our blog from everyone! it has gone over well, and has been viewed by many mommas looking for yummy recipes for their babes. thank you so much to my readers, and because of all the love i have decided to post a recipe each week! (my to-do list is HUGE) though i am very happy to share the goodness! please message me, tweet me or leave comments if you try out any of the recipes! i would love to hear from you!

the following is a delish breakfast recipe both me and my son LOVE! *please note this is not only a baby food recipe it can be enjoyed by the whole family!*

roasted banana-mango parfait

ingredients
*increase to feed more than just two people*
1 banana
1 mango
1 container of organic greek yogurt

directions
pre-heat oven to 400 degrees
YES we are roasting bananas! roasted bananas are so tasty, it brings out all the sweetness in the fruit and you will love it. toss the banana (in the peel) into the oven for about 10 min or until the peel is black and splitting open.

{your banana should look like this after you roast it}
peel and cute the mango
mix the two fruits together. (for babies you will have to puree the mango and mash the banana together.)
then take a glass and begin layering the yogurt and fruit. (SIMPLE)
my favorite yogurt to use with this parfait is greek yogurt. since the two fruits are super sweet using the tangy yogurt creates a nice balance.

{this is my favorite! and ryan's too}
your family will feel like kings and queens when you serve them this beautiful and tasty yogurt parfait!

i hope you love this as much as we do! enjoy!

ch ch ch cheesecake {cupcakes}

Saturday, July 23, 2011

i am posting this while enjoying a massive sugar rush! i just spent the last day and a half baking cheesecake cupcakes topped with cream cheese frosting for a 'hello kitty' themed birthday party! my favorite part about these cupcakes is the frosting and i even made one with extra frosting {just for me}! these are basically little cheesecakes in cupcake form, they don't even need the frosting but it adds a nice touch! i decided to do cream cheese frosting so i could turn it into a bright pink color to match the 'hello kitty' theme! {next time i will top them with chocolate...simple because i love cheesecake and chocolate together} i made 'hello kitty' cupcake toppers out of holographic stickers which turned out super simple and cute! i hope the birthday girl enjoyed them and eats them with caution as they are super rich!
i hope you enjoy these delish pictures!

{i love the layers! graham cracker bottom-cheesecake middle-heaven on top}

PSST....we LOVE celebrating 'baby boy bakery's' growth! once we reach 200 'likes' on facebook we will do another giveaway! yum!

{baby boy} baby food page!

as you all know i make all of my son's baby food and some of his snacks! i obsess over what my son puts in his mouth and i absolutely LOVE making his food from scratch and seeing the pure joy on his face while he eats it. i had known from the very beginning that i was going to make all his food and i was excited to show off my kitchen skills...to my 5 month old. i first bought a baby food cookbook, but after a few recipes i started developing my own and now i have a lot of really good recipes that ryan loves!
i was featured on dailypeppermint.com with my recipe for vanilla-banana teething biscuits and received so many messages & emails from mommas who loved them! also, within my family people always ask "what is ryan eating today?". it is so flattering and it makes me feel proud! i want to begin sharing my not so secret tips & recipes for mommas in transition from store bought to homemade!
which brings me to my new blog addition! i have decided to add a {baby boy}food page to our blog which will showcase my yummy baby food recipes (& other adult friendly recipes) i have come up with and that have been ryan tested...and approved! every 2 weeks i will add a new recipe and let you all know via facebook & twitter so you can check it out. my main goal with this new blog addition is to inspire those momma's out there to jump in the kitchen and start whipping up wholesome goodness for their babes & families! also, have no fear! these recipes will be easy no doubt! and delish!
please click on our {baby boy} food page to see our first recipe!
oh but by the way.....
of course i love organic wholesome goodness....though dan, ryan and i frequent our local 'in and out' for dinner some days. i have to say a #2 is my absolute favorite! just thought i would add that :)

{enjoying a little much maybe....roasted beets w. olive oil & oregano}
{ryan @ 6 months excited about steamed baby spinach}
i look forward to your comments about your own success or mishaps with homemade baby food! i love hearing from you all, and i would love to hear your input and advice!

gussy sews inpsiration workshop {week 8}

yay! it is thursday and that means we are linking up with other bloggers to share what inspires us! click on the inspiration workshop button on my right sidebar to join!

-this weeks inspiration topic- 'ryan'

this week i want to focus on the main reason i started my little baking business...my son ryan. come to find out he is the main reason i do anything now and has made my life so much more rich and exciting. when i first thought of the idea to start my own little bakery i didn't want to tell anyone because i thought they were going to think i was insane. when i first start my blog i was the only who read it for about 2 months! i realize now that we are growing slowly and that is so amazing! my son inspires me on a daily basis and it feels great knowing that everyday we get better at establishing 'baby boy bakery'.
this week i want to share with you some photos of my son and i being silly and in love. recently i have discovered that he loves when i whisper in his ear....and i think that is so cute!
show me your babes! i would love it!
{i  also want to thank my readers and  for their support with 'baby boy bakery' as we go through our delish journey. it means the world to me...and i have seriously enjoyed "meeting" you all and becoming friends!}
i can't wait to see what inpires you all this week!

{this kid is my everything!}

what i love wed! {on thurs}

i love linking up with other bloggers while we share what inspires us, what we create and what we love! i find it is a great way to "meet" others! i want to partake in as many as i can! i have decided to link up with the wonderfully talented krystina from 'lollipops' in what she likes to call 'wilw' aka what i love wednesday. of course i know my first post is happening on a thursday, but that will all change next week when i have my act together. :)

for now i would love to share with you all what i am crushing on this week! bambu kids forks and spoons! at first i thought this was just another one of my momma's hippie trends she is always telling me about. she bought a few sets for my son and when we started using them i fell in love! i love the smooth feel of the wood and the shallow spoon end. they are super light weight and chunky so my son can start learning how to hold utensils. the best thing about these is that they are organic! which i think is awesome. i say order some...or go to whole foods and grab some for your kids! we have  3 sets.....enjoy!
{100% organic forks & spoons = awesome}

you can find tons of organic feeding items at 'baby green sprout'. it is one of my favorite sites. we have nearly every feeding item they carry. a secret: whole foods also carries 'baby green sprout'.

'wim'{of the week 7}

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

it has been nearly 4 weeks since i have posted a 'wim'. our summer has been full of fun in the sun leaving me no time for much else besides sleep and laundry! :) i want to re-cap what the 'wim' of the week is...i decided to start a 'what i made' of the week! aka 'wim' of the week! it is an awesome way to showcase things i craft/bake for our family and friends. it can be anything from making funky frames to cooking a family dinner. the idea is to show different ways we can get creative in our day to day lives. i hope to inspire my blog readers to do the same and share with me what they create each week. my goal is to make this a 'linky party' in the future.
i would like to share with you all the super easy and tasty party favors i made for my son's baptism party this past weekend! i made white chocolate cover marshmallow pops. trust me they are so simple and i hope you make these for your guests at your next party! here is what you need; lollipop sticks, marshmallows, white chocolate candy melts and a sprinkle decoration. all you do is spear the marshmallows, dip them in the chocolate and roll them in your choice of sprinkles. stick them into the fridge to harden for an hour and then they are done!

{they don't have to be perfect....}

i only dunked one side, though i encourage you to get creative and have fun! i chose green sugar because that was the color scheme for our party.
{i like leaving one side, because it is easier :) }

to make these into party favors you just have to put each one into a clear treat bag and tie up with some ribbon and a cute tag. i love clear treat bags because it shows off your yummy treat! you can find favor tags everywhere online! some of my favorite places are 'the tomkat studio' and 'paperandcakes'. i chose to make mine from hand this time (also, my last time), but i enjoyed the end result.
{each in a treat bag.}
{the end result}
everyone loved these and thought they were the cutest. let me know what you think and if you are going to try them at your next party!
i hope you all enjoyed the 'wim' of the week!

chamomile soothies 4 teething monsters

Thursday, July 14, 2011

baby boy bakery has recently been featured on an up and coming website called 'daily peppermint'!
 {'daily peppermint' is an amazing site that delivers helpful momma tips/advice daily to your email inbox. each day you receive something different and it may be helpful to you at the moment or in the future. please click here to learn more about my friend andrea and why she started this amazing resource for mommas.}
i am very excited to share my recipe that was featured and sent to millions of mommas!

-chamomile teething cubes-
this is beyond simple to make for your cranky teether.

2 chamomile tea bags
6 cups boiling water
ice tray
mesh teething sacks

my son and i crossed paths with the teething monster fairly early at 3 1/2 months! ryan was snot nosed, coughing and just wanted to be held. he was like this for 2 weeks before we saw two tiny white dots on his gum line and then it all made sense. two teeth 4 days after turning 4 months....oh boy!
now you may think this little chamomile concoction won't work or sounds weird, but i promise it will make your cranky babe feel a little better. the soothing taste of chamomile frozen in cubes feels great on sore gums. try it and let me know how it goes....

{everything you need}

{steep tea for 4 min. pour into ice tray and freeze}

gussy sews inspiration workshop {week 7}

YES i have missed 2 weeks of linky love with mrs. gussy sews and her inspiration workshop + linky party! {we have been on vacation and super busy planning our son's baptism and i haven't found much time to be on the computer. however, i am making a HUGE effort to find more time to blog and somehow create more hours in the day....i'll let you know how that goes. until then i am back on track linking up with other bloggers to share what inspires us! click on the inspiration workshop button on my right sidebar to join!

-this weeks inspiration topic- 'sunshine'

i can really relate to this topic because i love being outside and soaking up the sun. before momma-hood i used to frequent the beach and 'lay out', read magazines and chit chat with friends while basking in the sunshine. now a days we still go to the beach all the time....and stay there all day! we pack everything known to man, strap ryan onto us like a baby koala and head to the shore for family fun in the sun!  my days of leisure sun bathing are long gone...now replaced with digging holes, making sand castles and splashing in the water (all while trying to keep ryan from eating sand)! i love every second of it and wouldn't change it for anything. this weeks inspiration prompt made me think of my new life as a momma and how amazing it is....everything has changed for the better and my son brings sunshine to my life everyday. i want to share a picture of my two amazing guys responsible for making my life absolutely perfect!
what does sunshine make you think of?

suga, spice & everything nice

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

for those of you on pinterest, you know how inspiring it is and how many ideas you come across while obsessing over each picture! i love looking at various blogs for ideas to try in the future and have dedicated an entire 'pin board' for things i would like to try and bake. i first saw this version of a churro cupcake on an the amazing blog 'save the date for cupcakes' and quickly "pinned" it on my MUST TRY 'pin board' labeled 'delish future'. soon after i did over 20 people 're-pinned' the picture and each week it gained more popularity! it got me so excited and i began to think of how i could make my own version of a churro cupcake. all i saw was the picture of a cupcake with churros on top and developed a recipe that i am SO SO proud of. i call them my 'suga spice' cupcakes. they are a cinnamon-brown sugar cake with  cinnamon-vanilla frosting and topped with bunuelo sticks....

{cupcake bottom decor is a funky cloth ribbon my mom gave me! adds a cute touch}
i want to show you how well they turned out. {you can order some here to try your self  :o) } i shared them with my friends and everyone seemed to love them! check out the comments on our facebook fan page!
hope you guys drool over these and want some! & stay tuned for more pinterest inspired desserts!
{suga, spice & everything nice}
a HUGE thank you to tanya from 'save the date for cupcakes' for posting that picture of a churro cupcake which inspired my own version!

{pup}cakes

a few weeks ago i had the pleasure of baking up some sweet treats for a puppy's 3rd birthday! yes, i baked birthday cupcakes for a dog, and he loved them. i want to share with you pet lovers out there the super easy recipe i found online. hopefully you whip up some to celebrate your pup's next special day.

-1 cup flour
-1/2 cup oil
-3/4 cup smooth peanut butter
-2 large eggs
-2 tsp baking soda
-1/2 cup peeled, chopped carrots
-1tsp vanilla
-1tsp honey
preheat oven  to 350 degrees
mix all together in a bowl until it forms a thick batter
scoop into cupcake liners and bake for 30 minutes
SUPER EASY
the cupcakes will be a more biscuit texture, though that is perfect for pups.

{they are so cute! (JUST peanut butter for the frosting)}

some things to remember when baking for your doggies; stay away from adding sugar and chocolate as these are not good for them and hard to digest. also, don't let them chow on an entire cupcake or piece of cake in one sitting...they could get sick since they aren't used to eating "sweets". the most important thing is to have fun and get creative! plus, if you have children get them involved with the baking and decorating for the puppy party!
here, here and here are some places you can find super fun ideas/recipes to help celebrate your puppy!
have fun and please share with me the ways you celebrate your puppy and their birthdays!

{your puppy will LOVE these}
