Daily Family Checklist - Keeping Busy At Home

How is everyone doing? Our family is on Day 22 of staying put at home and we have really great days, along with not so great ones. Most days at least one (or more) of us has a melt down and needs some time alone. I have been keeping my energy super high while Mila and Maya are awake. Trying to basically protect them from feeling fear or worried about Covid-19 and the fact that they can’t physically see family or friends. When Mila talks about the future she says “When everyone gets better I can go back to school and I can go with you to the store again!” “When everyone gets better we can see Tia and Abuebla and my cousins!” Every thing starts with “When everyone gets better…” and it breaks my heart. Truthfully I have no idea when that will be and I can’t believe the situation we are all in. I feel so scared. Do you feel scared? Feel free to share any emotions you feel down below in the comments. I’ve learned that it helps writing things out.

I’ve channeled all my anxiety into cooking, baking, and making homemade ice cream. Focusing any and all energy I have on doing fun activities with Mila that also serve as somewhat educational. And yes, letting her do nearly an hour of kids yoga classes on YouTube count as educational to me. I’m in this weird preschool stage where we don’t have any teachers sending home work to do now that all schools are closed. I’m just doing letter + number flash cards, making up writing worksheets for her to trace letters to hopefully learn how to write her own name, and we are reading endless books. Mila does work on her Homer Reading app on the iPad, we play in our backyard, and she works out with Dan sometimes too haha! We are all doing our best and thankfully Mila seems to be in positive spirits. Twice she has gotten frustrated about not being able to go anywhere or see anyone. We cried together and once I just held her in my lap as she listed all the people she wants to see, “Once everyone gets better.” What an insane time we are living in right now!

Since we are all staying home the days definitely have begun to bleed together. I look at the clock and can’t believe it is 3:30pm already and we’ve yet to do things like brush our teeth or clean up the dishes from the night before! The other day I got the worst headache because I had been on a cleaning binge and hadn’t had any water all day. While I am not the mom who makes a colorful schedule with times listed and specific sections of the day dedicated to screen time, outside time etc. I was desperate for some sort of structure to hold us all accountable for the same things, that we could interpret/carry out in a way that made sense to us individually. Every morning I made a simple checklist for us all to use that helped us remember to do things like drink water, clean, move our body, read. This way when Mila is working on her third yoga session on YouTube, we can refer to the list and move on to something else entirely.

We created one that you all could use too and you can find it below. Print it out and add your family’s name. Try to tackle each task. See how you did at the end of the week. I’ll be sharing how we are doing on my IG Stories and we can all just continue moving along productively + positively at home together. Sending you all hugs!
