If you follow us on Instagram @babyboybakery then you know that at the start of our ‘Stay At Home’ order I started making homemade pizza dough. Honestly, I wanted to learn something new and now had plenty of time to do so. In true Jacqui fashion I didn’t really prepare anything, I found the most easiest recipe I could and began. I ended up not having half the ingredients and improvised with what I had on hand. The first round actually turned out pretty well. I tried once more and changed a few things. Then again to really perfect it. Thank goodness my family is obsessed with pizza! At one point I was making pizzas and driving them over to my in-laws house. We made all kinds of pizza'; traditional cheese (Mila’s favorite), sausage + bell pepper (My personal fav), BBQ Chicken, and a really incredible Bacon White Pizza with ricotta! All our pizzas though had the same yummy crust and I am sharing it below …

Honey Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

What You Need; 1 packet of dry active yeast, 1 cup warm water, 1 tsp honey, 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour, 2 tbs olive oil, 1 tsp sea salt, non-stick cooking spray, baking sheet or pizza baking pan. We used a stand mixer here but you can definitely do this by hand!

What You Do

-In your stand mixer fitted with the dough hook (or in a large bowl if you aren’t using a mixer) add your warm water, yeast, and honey. Give it a quick stir and then let it sit for 10 minutes. Set your timer because the wait times in this recipe really ensure your dough comes out perfect!

-After ten minutes you can add in the flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough ball forms.

-Keep a close eye! Once a dough ball forms, set a timer for 5 minutes and let the mixer kneed the dough! (if you are using your hands then get your muscles ready and kneed the dough by hand for 5 minutes ;)

-After the dough has been kneaded for 5 minutes remove from the mixing bowl. It should be all together really smooth + pillowy to the touch. I also love to give it a good sniff, because it truly smells so good!

-Now it is time to make a pizza! *Note this pizza dough doesn’t do well if you make it ahead. Once you make it use it!

-I like to cut the dough in half and make two pizzas. You can make one large pizza, two medium sized ones or cut it into four pieces and have everyone make their own individual pizzas! Use your hands to gently stretch out your dough until it is about 1/2 inch or so thick. I used a rolling pin here BUT if you like a more pillowy crust then stick to just using your hands to gently stretch out your dough until it comes to a circle and the size you like. Using a rolling pin tends to make your dough more thin and crisp.

-Before topping your pizza dough, place it onto the baking pan! Spray the baking pan with non-stick cooking spray and then gently place your dough onto the pan.

-Brush a bit of olive oil on your dough and get to topping! Get creative here and let loose! When making homemade pizza there are NO RULES. Unless your name is Mila and then there is one rule. One pizza must be just cheese!

-Whatever you top your pizza with though I do have some tips to help make it the best it can be! Top the rim of your pizza toppings with grated Parmesan.

-Then sprinkle on a little dried oregano and of course some sea salt to really punch up and bring out all the flavors of your pizza pie!

-Bake at 400 degrees for about 10-15 minutes on the center rack in your oven. Bake until the crust is golden brown on the bottom. Enjoy!
