Last week Maya hit eight months and she popped her first tooth! It sort of just happened without warning. While Maya enjoys cold things in her mouth and silicone toy teethers, she isn’t a real drooler (like her sister and brother). Thankfully, so far, she hasn’t been too fussy. Though she only has one tooth … I am sure things will take a turn soon!

When Ryan was a baby and in full blown teething mode I loved making him things that helped soothe his sore gums! You can find our old recipes here for Chamomile Soothies and Vanilla Teething Biscuits! If you click on those links you’ll also find some cutie pictures of baby Ryan. While we are on the subject of teething and baby’s first tooth … You can click to read about Mila’s first tooth here.

Now with Maya, I am re-finding that joy of creating something to soothe my babies! I bought this rad silicone teether and you can practically fill it with anything your child enjoys. I have found that filling it with frozen fruit really works well and Maya loves it! Since it is Summer and watermelon is in season, we’ve been freezing fresh watermelon juice into ice cubes to use. Find out how below and soothe those sore gums!

Frozen Watermelon Teether

*You can do this with any fruit you enjoy most!

What You Need; watermelon, blender, mesh strainer, net teether we love THIS ONE, ice cube tray

What You Do

-Start by slicing up your watermelon. Since our family enjoys watermelon I slice up an entire one for everyone to enjoy. TIP - Slice a small piece off the end of the watermelon so it can stand upright with out toppling over. This will make it sturdy to slice.

-Take about 4-5 one inch slices of watermelon and chop them up. Cutting off the rind.

-Add the pieces of watermelon into a blender and blend until smooth.

-Strain the watermelon through a mesh strainer over a large bowl. You’ll want to do this to get rid of any seeds and pulp. This will make your watermelon juice nice and smooth!

-Use a spatula to push the pulp down and squeeze all the juice from it through the strainer.

-Here is the teether we love! It is so easy to wash and use! You can find it HERE.

-Now hand it off to your baby and let them enjoy the cool feel and yummy taste! *Never leave your baby unattended when they enjoy any teether or food ;)

-You can store the watermelon juice cubes in the freezer for up to three weeks! You can also use them in smoothies, iced drinks, and adult beverages!

Enjoy!
